March 1, 2007

Hi to all,

Our Spring Conference will be held March 29 – 31, 2007 at Occoneechee State Park in Clarksville, Virginia. As usual, lodgings will be available for arrival on Thursday and we’ll end the conference at noon on Saturday following the business meeting. An agenda is attached.

On Thursday night, we’ll have pizza and your “libation of choice”. If you have a preferred wine or brand, feel free to bring your own.

Friday, March 30, will feature a full day of activities. We’ll begin with a continental breakfast then move to the Occoneechee State Park Visitor Center to be welcomed by Scott Shanklin, Park Manager. After a tour of the State Park, we’ll visit and tour Prestwould Plantation and a Corps of Engineer campground before lunch.

Lunch will be at Ernie’s Restaurant in South Boston. You’ll be able to order from the menu or select from the buffet and you’ll pay your own tab.

After lunch, we’ll proceed to the Staunton River Battlefield Park for a welcome by Jim Zanarini, Park Manager and a presentation on area archaeology by Dr. Brian Bates, Longwood College. We’ll then be led by Doug Powell, Trustee of the Historic Staunton River Foundation and noted local historian, on a tour of the Battlefield, the Fort, the Bridge, the Depot, and Mulberry Hill.

After returning to Occoneechee State Park, we’ll have a “conviviality session” at Cabin 9 and then proceed to the Lamplighter Restaurant for dinner. Our guest speaker will be Senator Creigh Deeds.

Nancy Heltman will play her usual role in arranging our lodging. Please contact her at 804-786-5057 or email her at nancy.heltman@dcr.Virginia.gov and let her know your arrival date and lodging needs.

Please complete the attached registration form and send it to Ann Lipp, 401 Stonehouse Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. If you’d like to avail yourself of the “one stop shopping opportunity”, please note that we’ve made the registration form user friendly to accommodate dues payments as well as registration fees. If you have questions for Ann, she can be reached at 757-566-3788 or via email at calipp@verizon.net.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference…..Johnny
