August 25, 2008

Hi to all,

Our 2008 Fall Conference will be held September 18, 19, and 20 at Bear Creek Lake State Park. As usual, lodgings will be available for arrival on Thursday and we’ll end the conference at noon on Saturday following the business meeting. A three-day agenda and a registration form are included as separate attachments to the e-mail announcement.

On Thursday evening, we’ll meet at Cabin 13 (the lodge) for some “conviviality” and pizza. Cabin 13 will also be the conviviality site on Friday.

Friday, September 19, will begin with a continental breakfast at the Conference Center. We’ll then leave for the Farmville Railroad Depot for a presentation about High Bridge Trail – Virginia’s recently opened 35th state park.  Due to the Park System’s dismal budget situation, we’ll provide our own transportation on Friday. Some of you may thus wish to chat about carpooling for the Friday trip.

After the presentation, we’ll drive a short distance from the depot and have a tour of a section of the trail including a visit to the park’s namesake – High Bridge. Following the tour, you’ll be on your own for the rest of the morning including lunch. I’m sure that you’ll want to spend some time browsing downtown Farmville which is recognized as one of the largest retail furniture operations available. Driving directions and a list of local restaurants will be provided before we leave Bear Creek Lake State Park on Friday morning.

The afternoon activities on Friday will be centered at Bear Creek Lake State Park. We’ll convene for a conviviality session at Cabin 13 before proceeding to dinner at the conference center. Our dinner guest and speaker will be Senator Emmett Hanger.

Saturday will begin with a continental breakfast followed by the business meeting. Lunch will be available at the end of the meeting.

Nancy Heltman will play her usual role in arranging our lodging. Please contact her at 804-786-5057 or email her at nancy.heltman@dcr.Virginia.gov and tell her your arrival date and lodging needs. If you would like to stay over Saturday night, you will need to bring this to her attention and see if your cabin will be available for that purpose.

Please complete the attached registration form and send it to Ann Lipp, 401 Stonehouse Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. If you have questions for Ann, she can be reached at 757-566-3788 or via email at calipp@verizon.net.

I look forward to seeing you……..Johnny
