Hi to all,
Our 2010 Spring Conference will be held March 18, 19, and 20 at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. As usual, lodgings will be available for arrival on Thursday afternoon and we'll end the conference at noon on Saturday following the business meeting. A three-day agenda and a registration form are included as separate attachments to the email announcement.
On Thursday evening, we'll meet at Cabin 7 for some "conviviality" and pizza. Cabin 7 will serve as the "conviviality" site for the conference duration.
On Friday morning, following a continental breakfast, Brian Heft, Park Manager, will give welcoming comments and provide an overview of Smith Mountain Lake State Park. After Brian's comments, you have a choice of spending the day in the Park or participating in a day trip to Thomas Jefferson's home (Poplar Forest).
Poplar Forest doesn't begin its season until April 1, but the staff has agreed to open for us if we have a group of 20 or more. The admission fee is $10. We'll provide van transportation but you'll be responsible for paying your admission fee at the door.
There will be a lunch stop somewhere along the way. You're responsible for your lunch on Friday whether you opt to stay in the park or take the day trip. All other meals are covered by the conference fee.
Nancy Heltman will play her usual role in arranging our lodging. Please contact her by phone at 804-786-5057 or email her at nancy.heltman@dcr.virginia.gov to tell her your arrival date and lodging needs. If you would like to stay over on Saturday night, you need to bring this to her attention so she can see if your cabin will be available for that night or has already been reserved. If you arrange lodgings, then find that you are unable to attend, please let Nancy know as soon as possible so she can put the cabin back on the reservation availability list.
Please complete the attached registration form and send it to Ann Lipp, 401 Stonehouse Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188. If you have questions for Ann, she can be reached by phone at 757-566-3788 or by email at calipp@verizon.net. Ann needs to receive your registration information by no later than beginning of business on Monday, March 15, so we'll have head counts for logistics.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Johnny
