Park Support Organizations, National Park Superintendents, and State Park Managers:

Now that summer has come to an end, it is time for us to focus attention on our fall meeting scheduled for November 16 & 17 at George Washington Birthplace National Monument in Westmoreland County, Virginia. The park is located on Rt. 204 just off of Rt. 3, 38 miles east of Fredericksburg and I-95.

Friday, November 16: An optional fundraising seminar, a special eagle tour at Caledon Natural Area, and a winery tour, wine tasting, dinner and speaker at Ingleside Plantation Winery. Guest speaker for the dinner is Joe Elton, Director of State Parks. (The Virginia State Park System was the winner of the 2001 Gold Medal Award for Excellence in the Field of Park and Recreation Management.)

Saturday, November 17: The Virginia Association For Parks business meeting from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The fundraising seminar and the VAFP business meeting will be held in the Loghouse at the Birthplace. As you drive on Rt. 204 approaching the park, you will see a one-tenth-scale version of the Washington Monument at the park boundary.  If you turn right at the monument you will go into the Visitor Center parking lot. To get to the Loghouse, follow the road around the monument and turn right onto another park road that goes to the picnic area and burial ground. As you follow the park road, you will turn right onto another park road, you will turn right onto another park road when you see the small sign for the conference center.  Follow this road to the Loghouse. The Loghouse is a white building on the right side of the road.  Please see the enclosed park map (mailed).

These events are open to state and national park staff, park volunteers, park support organizations, and others who care to participate. We ask each park to send at least one staff member.

Complete agenda for Friday and Saturday’s events is enclosed. Spouses, family members or guests are welcome to participate in the tour of Caledon Natural Area, winery tour, reception, and dinner on Friday.
