Have you ever wondered how you can broaden your influence and impact on the entire Virginia State Park System? The Virginia Association For Parks is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill three vacant officer positions on the Virginia Association For Parks board of directors. These positions are unpaid, volunteer positions, with the potential to have a huge impact on the Virginia State Park System.
Advocacy Vice President – New Position – Primary responsibilities are to oversee the board’s advocacy efforts on behalf of Virginia State Parks, including coordinating advocacy efforts at the Virginia General Assembly, chair the Advocacy Committee, and provide training (primarily via Zoom or other internet platform) to state park Friends groups to assist them in their advocacy efforts for the state parks in their communities. Professional experience is not necessary, but the candidate must have experience in conducting advocacy efforts at the local, state, or national level.

This Vice President may coordinate our quarterly Friends call with state park Friends groups across the state to provide training. The Vice President would not have to present every quarter, but could find a guest speaker to do the presentation. Training sessions and quarterly calls should be archived on the VAFP website. This Vice President could also be included on the VAFP Friends Resources page tools such as sample bylaws, sample annual reports, and other helpful organizational documents.
Treasurer – The Treasurer shall serve as custodian of all funds, maintain the financial records, deposit all funds in a financial institution approved by the VAFP board of directors, disburse funds as required by the annual budget and/or as approved by the VAFP board of directors, and present financial reports at each meeting and/or at the request of the VAFP board of directors.
The Treasurer will also coordinate the preparation of VAFP financial documents to meet state and federal reporting requirements. Professional experience is not necessary, but the candidate must have experience in managing fiscal responsibilities for a nonprofit organization.
